About
Meet The Team
Scott
aka The Alpaca Shearer
As any customer reading this will know, Scott ‘just drives and shears’ is the 'in joke' of the role Scott is accountable for in this business, he turns up at customers, chats loads, drinks loads of their tea and possibly eats bacon sarnies and shears their alpacas.
HOWEVER, as much as we all joke during shearing season (as you have to, as shearing season is epic for anyone involved), Scott is on hand 24/7 to discuss/ support/visit your alpacas or your site. It doesn’t matter if the herd is large or small, you are commercial or non-commercial. Scott is very happy to discuss shearing, husbandry, training, veterinary support, animal association support, sustainable animal management and farming at any time. There is an overview of the areas of Scotts work within this website..please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
Theo
aka The Alpaca Lad
Theo supports both Scott and Brooke within any area of their work. Theo, like all of the team, has a compassion and understanding of alpacas and their owners as being very specific to their own individual setting and approaches his work for you accordingly. Theos ongoing learning and development stems from his own personal journey and understanding that a holistic approach to situations for either animals or us humans is far better than a more mainstream authoritative approach. Although he may not chat much when on site, it is a priority for Theo, like all the team, that any experience for clients inviting us on site is as stress free for both you and your alpacas as possible.
Theo is also our Tik Tok expert and has his own account which tells his own alpaca journey
Lisa
aka The Navigator
Lisa works as Professional Development Lead for Vetpol UK supporting SQP animal welfare training and development within both veterinary and paraprofessional roles. Working as a freelance consultant offers Lisa the opportunity to also work delivering veterinary CPD, product and association driven campaigns. With a broad knowledge of animal welfare and the environment, whilst also being one of our alpaca owning customers, Lisa is in a position to offer support within all aspects of our work.
Lisa also owns Nurture Nature Farm, the pilot plot being Billy Bottom for us both to be able to work on the key issues of sustainable animal management in order to be able to educate, share and signpost associations and companies to our clients so we all look after not only our animals but the environment. Animal welfare and owner wellbeing is at the core of both our work.
Lisa has also acquired her sustainability certificate therefore is well placed to advise us, or our clients, on sustainability issues and/or our carbon footprint.
Brooke
aka our very own Alpaca Jedi
Brooke is VERY accomplished with the white herding poles, his Jedi like strobe techniques with the poles are second to none :-).
Brooke has been working with Scott for the last 4 years, not only is he Scott’s nephew meaning he has grown up and developed his knowledge through Scott’s small holding life but at 24 years has developed his own role within the business. Brooke is instrumental in route planning and shearing season management but also has an ability to care for your alpacas in a way that is empathic and knowledgeable. At the end of the '22 shearing season Brooke, on an end of season visit to Horners was presented with a set of his own shears meaning under Scott’s guidance this season Brooke began developing his own client list and now for 2024 there will be two shearing teams on the road looking after your alpacas. Brooke is also our team photographer and will happily discuss, if you love our photos, how he can use these skills to assist in the marketing of your own business.
Summer
aka The Boss
For anyone who has experienced Summer being on site you know she has inherited many of Scott’s skills – she will chat, and chat, and chat more while being very acutely aware of your alpaca's sensitive nature and the need to support your animals whilst shearing or husbandry work is undertaken. Summer is a ‘mini me’.
Due to her age and school commitments not many of you further than Devon or Somerset will have the delight of meeting Summer, however if you do, feel free to ask her thoughts on her school curriculum around sustainability, Summer is very capable of challenging us all on our decisions and keeps us all on the right track to meet the needs of the next generation.
